Musubi Man
by Lee Cataluna, adapted from the book by Sandi Takayama
At Tenney Theatre: January 18- February 4, available Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30am and 11:00am.
Touring to Oahu Schools: February 14-March 4
“Run, run, as fast as you can! You no can catch me, I’m one musubi man!” The pidgin-speaking Musubi Man, like the gingerbread man in the classic tale, is determined not to be eaten and he sets out on a wild journey that takes him all the way to the sea. Designed to foster young children’s pre-literacy development, the story gives plenty of opportunity for kids to interact and help with the storytelling.

i ka wa ma mua ka wa ma hope, the future is in the past
Join us in celebrating the rich history and many possible futures living in our land as we explore Native Hawaiian ideas of “time” and “place.” This multi-media experience mixes elements of live performance, walking tour and digital gaming for an entirely new type of theatre.
Classes meet at HTY’s Tenney Theatre for an orientation/performance and each group will be guided by a performer/educator who will accompany the group from location to location as well as facilitating the use of the technological elements. The experience requires some light walking and is limited to 100 participants per performance.
Grades 3 – 12.
Holoholo Nā Holoholona: Animals on the Go
by Makiilei Ishihara and the HTY Ensemble
At Tenney Theatre: February 14-March 4 available Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30am and 11:00am.
Touring to Oahu Schools: January 18- February 4
Come crawl, leap, jump, fly and sing in this exciting new theatrical adventure based on classic Hawaiian stories of animals. From the wise pueo (owl) to the fearless ‘opihi (limpet) every creature has a story to tell. Like Aesop’s fables many of our ka‘ao & mo‘olelo Hawai‘i have invaluable lessons for all keiki young and old. Lets go “holoholo” around the islands with our friends the animals (holoholona). While laughing and singing students will get an age appropriate introduction to Hawaiian language and culture.
Grades 1 – 6
The Carp Who Would Not Quit
By Reiko Ho and the HTY Ensemble
At Tenney Theatre: April 17-22, available Monday-Friday at 9:30am and 11:00am.
These re-tellings of traditional fables from Japan and Okinawa teach important lessons of persistence, respect and kindness. Japanese and Okinawan music, language and culture are the heart of this performance featuring clever animals and a whole lot of fun for our youngest audience members and their families.
