In Spring 2027, Primary Players enters a world where creatures breathe fire, tails hold ancient magic, and every beast has a story worth telling!
Dates: 10 consecutive Saturday mornings from January 9 – March 14, 2027
Time: 9 AM – Noon
Ages: 7-11
Cost: $375 per child
Place: The Cathedral of St. Andrew in downtown Honolulu
*We understand that everyone is balancing a busy schedule. However, if you know your child is not able to commit to all 10 Saturdays, we ask that you check with us before registering or join us for future sessions. Mahalo!
Roars, Scales, & Magical Tails!
From the volcanic shores of Hawaiʻi to the rivers of ancient China, from the stormy seas of Scotland to the swamps of ancient Greece — the world is FULL of fearsome, fantastic, and mysterious creatures just waiting to leap off the page and onto the stage.
Every culture on earth has its monsters, its serpents, its fearsome creatures of scale and tail and ancient power. This spring we’re diving into four of the most extraordinary — and putting their stories in your hands.
- Hiss and shimmer with the White Snake and her fierce loyal sister — and the young man whose courage is tested when he must choose between fear and loyalty.
- Stand with Hiʻiaka and face down Panaʻewa — a roaring lizard chief who commands the forest itself — in a battle where she calls on her sister Pele and the power of Kīlauea to sweep him out to sea forever.
- Cross the stormy sea with Childe Wynd as he races home to break the curse on his sister Margaret — transformed by a wicked spell into the terrifying Laidly Worm — in a quest that only the bravest heart can complete.
- Grab your sword and your torch — Hercules and his clever nephew Iolaus are heading into the swamp to face the Hydra, a nine-headed water serpent that grows two heads for every one that falls.
Here’s what we’ll do…
Meet the Beasts: Dive headfirst into four legendary tales from four corners of the globe — and meet the serpents, lizard spirits, sea worms, and many-headed monsters who have been waiting centuries for someone brave enough to tell their story.
Step Inside the Story: Through drama exercises, young participants will explore and embody the characters — finding their voice, their power, and their place in the story.
Bring It to Life: In small groups, young performers devise their own original scene — building from a single frozen moment all the way to a full performance, ready to share with family and friends at our final showcase.
Prepare for a journey of scaly adventures, roaring battles, and magical tails from across the globe!
Registration Notes:
- Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.
- Payment is required to secure your child(ren)’s place in the program.
- We strongly recommend that you register and pay early as the program sells out quickly.
- A confirmation email from the Drama Education Department will be sent after receipt of both registration form and payment. This may take up to 2 business days.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT PARTICIPANT AGE REQUIREMENT: We appreciate those that seek programs for children under 7 years old, however our participatory programs require that children are 7 years old upon sign-up. We wish to ensure that all participants have benefitted from the social and behavioral experience of at least kindergarten. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to the day your child turns 7!
UPDATED REFUND POLICY: Once program payment is received, refunds are handled as follows should you choose to cancel your registration.
- Parent or Legal Guardian must contact edadmin@htyweb.org and provide written notice via email at least 30 days before the program start date to receive a full refund, minus a $30 non-refundable processing fee.
- If written noticed is received 29 days or less before the program start date, no refunds will be given unless we are able to fill your child’s spot, minus a $30 non-refundable processing fee. If we are not able to fill your child’s spot, no refund will be given. Please make a firm commitement to joining our program.

Participating in Primary Players inspires children to discover the creative fun of theatre. Through theatre games and dramatic exploration, the Primary Players develop comfort and confidence with presenting playful performances and build imaginative abilities.
When your child joins Primary Players, they become an integral piece to the creating and performance process! Attendance and promptness are important to your child’s learning experience. If you know your child can’t commit to all 10 Saturdays due to previous commitments, we ask that you check with us ahead of time or join us for a future session.
