Be the performer you dream to be in a dramatic summer with HTY
Our summer programs focus on the creative development of our young participants. We desire to provide both a professional and engaging experience throughout the summer that ends with an entertaining performance and we are most dedicated to cultivating the individual artist in each of the young participants. We build their skill with and understanding of theatre by guiding them to create original scenes and plays. We want them to not only memorize dialogue, but create original characters and dialogue that truly makes the performance a reflection of their creativity.
Registration Notes:
- Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.
- Payment is required to secure your child(ren)’s place in the program.
- We strongly recommend that you register and pay early as the program sells out quickly (typically in under an hour).
- A confirmation email from the Drama Education Department will be sent after receipt of both registration form and payment. This may take up to 3 business days.
DATES: 4 consecutive weeks in June 2026 (to be determined)
TIME: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
PLACE: Tenney Theatre at the Cathedral of St. Andrews in downtown Honolulu (with some sessions at Capitol Modern, across the street from Tenney Theatre.)
COST: (to be determined)
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT PARTICIPANT AGE REQUIREMENT: We appreciate those that seek programs for children under 7 years old, however our participatory programs require that children are 7 years old upon sign-up. We wish to ensure that all participants have benefitted from the social and behavioral experience of at least kindergarten. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to the day your child turns 7!
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT REFUNDS: If you decide to withdraw from the program after registering with payment, a refund will only be available when the vacated spot can be filled by another participant PRIOR TO THE START OF THE PROGRAM. Please make a firm commitment to joining our program.

Each drama day will be divided into two parts:
Whole group activities for skill building
Activities that build body and voice expression as well as performative skills. We will play improvisational games and explore how to use space. All you need to bring is a willingness to try new things, step out of your comfort zone sometimes and take creative risks. Be ready to work with new friends and to share and embrace ideas.
Small Group Story Building
Small teams will work together on creating story scenes using the skills they’ve been developing.
Imagining the story. The team members will create action and blocking and even write their own dialog!
The summer will culminate in a performance where each group performs their own scene to help tell the story. The heart of the program is on the creative process and creativity building.
