Brian Gilhooly

Production Manager/Resident Designer

Brian fell in love with theatre while a student at Castle High School—as a performer and technician—inspired by Ron Bright and Sandy Riford. He first discovered Honolulu Theatre for Youth when he assisted Sandy in mounting HTY shows at Castle. Brian continued to study theatre at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. After earning a bachelor’s degree in drama from UH, he worked at Kamehameha Schools building, designing, mounting productions and managing the theatre for 10 years. Next, he joined the faculty at Punahou School, teaching Technical Theatre and Design and serving as technical director for 18 years. An admitted computer/tech geek, Brian also has enjoyed the opportunity to do freelance production work and act in community theatre when the stars align.  Brian is happy to return to HTY as production manager and one of our resident designers.
