Karen Kiefer

Director of Drama Education

HTY designer and lifelong Hawaii resident Karen Kiefer  graduated with a bachelors degree in cultural anthropology , psychology, and fine art from the Evergreen State College in 1989.  She has been working in the arts as a teacher, designer, and fine artist ever since.  She worked for a decade at Le Jardin academy heading the middle school  visual art department and collaborating with Robert St John in the theatre department in the creation of many original stage shows. She has also offered private art instruction in studio settings  for 30 years to creatives of all ages.  She opened her own studio in 2007. Around that time she began her collaborative work with Director Annie Woods. Her first shows were  Charlie Brown and Red Balloon with HEARTS.  The two went on to work with HTY on the original traveling pre-school shows Peter Rabbit, Happy, Home, Blue, Ouch,  Red Balloon and Sparkle. As a fine artist, Karen is most well known for her large scale work in oil, and more recently her experiment and gravity defying work in ceramics.
